And with too many patients, this can be very taxing. 1/n
More than anything, this is a rhetorical question, because truth to tell
1) there is judgement in that question
2) the answer has no bearing on the management
3) the patient does not need to justify anything. 2/n
and worse, frequently uttered in frustration or sometimes, with disdain.
But is this really necessary? Do patients need to hear this, because this is NOT patient education. Really. 3/n
But more than this, understanding context is even more essential.
Under the current social conditions, there are just so many factors in the decision of patients to seek consult. 4/n
Pag nag-absent ako, wala akong kikitain. Wala kaming pangkain.
Walang-wala ako. Kailangan pa umutang. Magkano kaya gagastusin ko?
Or worse,
Baka pagalitan na naman ako ni Dok kasi di ako agad nagpunta. 5/n

But our healthcare system is very far from ideal.
The social determination of health account for many considerations, esp for the poor.

Let us not add to this injustice by failing them again when they actually do get to us, when they reach our instititions.
