As we come together #InDefenseOfIlhan today. We must mention the connection between imperialism, migration, and the criminalization and exploitation of Black women bodies across borders. NGOs, military, police, border patrol all play apart in the violence Black women face.
The criminalization is the sex work is a global issue. Black immigrants from Africa are more likely to be policed, harassed, and criminalized for engaging in the sex trade in Europe. Yet governments across the world are invested in anti-blackness and Islamophobia.
The investment in these violent systems means less job opportunities, lack of access to healthcare and other resources, delayed immigration processes or lack of pathways for Black women immigrants. All these compounded make living conditions of Black migrant sex workers difficult
Being #InDefenseOfIlhan means being against borders, it means supporting our migrant sex workers across borders, it means supporting our Palestianian sibs who are being occupied, it means fighting against islamophobia which heavily impacts Black women, girls, and gnc folks
Being #InDefenseofIlhan means fighting against imperialism and US military intervention in Somalia which creates thousands of refugees many who are Black women; many who flee their countries and engage in the sex trade for survival.
Being #InDefenseOfIlhan means understanding that “prostitution” is a deportable offense and our Black migrant sibs who are surviving are experiencing the fear of not only police interaction and violence but the fear of being deported back to experience US military violence
Being #InDefenseofIlhan outright opposing any U.S. military intervention.Military intervention from Venezuela to Somali create violent conditions for Black women to live in. But as we see in Sudan and across the world,we will keep fighting + we will get free,including sex workers
