Some takeaways from #NYGiants rookie camp on a thread ...

1. Daniel Jones impressed me with the juice on his throws, especially those into coverage. He was high a couple times on intermediate throws over the middle, but you can see his natural ability on the move.
2. Dexter Lawrence lined up at left end, nose guard and right end in odd fronts throughout team drills, and he didn't just look to overpower the offensive lineman in front of him. Probably smart. Show the coaches his bag of tricks early.
3. Deandre Baker uses physicality, and his technique is very clean. Not grabby. Just straight up looking to lock in and lock down. It's only one practice against guys who might not even be in the league, but ... there's a chance Baker has biggest impact of any NYG rookie in 2019.
4. TE C.J. Conrad of Kentucky was very active and it's evident why the Giants like him. Seems to be the kind of guy Pat Shurmur will use a lot, especially if he can show an ability to block. TE room clearly has someone new to challenge for a roster spot.
5. WR Darius Slayton had a rough early going, as most of us observing today's practice noted. It was good to see him respond after three glaring drops in team drills by closing out the day with three consecutive catches in traffic. Had that knock in college, so something to watch
6. Shurmur was asked about Corey Ballentine and he clearly wanted to make the point that the rookie CB was "a victim of a crime." Said Ballentine was “shot in the butt" and NYG want him to take the time he needs to mourn his close friend and for closure.
7. Shurmur said the NYG are hopeful Ballentine will be able to be with the team May 13 when the rookies join the veterans as part of the offseason program, but they would stay in contact, stressing "this is a real life situation."
8. Idaho QB Matthew Linehan is one of three QBs at Giants rookie camp as a tryout. He is the son of former Cowboys offensive coordinator and ex-Rams head coach Scott Linehan
9. Former Patriots WR Cody Hollister is a tryout at Giants rookie camp and he made a couple very nice catches underneath. Also flashed some speed during special teams drills
