Lighthizer, Ross, Mnuchin and Navarro rip the flesh off our economic adversaries. [Seriously, Ross reads details and footnotes of contracts as a hobby... freaky and scary dude... ate up with it... you don't want to face, EVER.] While Kudlow and Hassett watch/cheer from bleachers.
.@WilburRoss is the big dog. The guy can smell the in's/out's of contracts with a gift. Serious. A gift. Spooky how the guy can take contacts apart. Ross gives us the legal authority for all the tariffs. Notice how his position always wins. The guy is a friggin trade savant.
Everyone is learning from Ross. Including @stevenmnuchin1 Navarro, and Lighthizer et al. [And POTUS] Trump faced Ross once in the 90's. From there, he never forgot, and enlisted him first as foundation for "America First" MAGA.
Next closest to Ross is Lighthizer. Vicious. Wicked smart legal mind. The guy gives an initial impression that most underestimate... Lighthizer doesn't speak much, but he absorbs everything. EVERYTHING. Dude can tell color of the wallpaper in a negotiation room 20 years ago.
You never know when Lighthizer is pissed. [Ask Crystia Freeland] But that's the dangerous part. When he walks away pissed off.... Ho-Lee-Snap... It's gonna be ugly down the road. We don't see it, for months... but he places destruct buttons inside the economies of adversaries.
Then there's @stevenmnuchin1 ... Another who gives the impression of nerd, but the dude (a billionaire himself) is wicked smart. Spooky reserved. Don't poke the quiet ones. Mnuchin will lose the initial fight and while you're laughing, the bastard will buy your mortgage.
Wilbur Ross, Steven Mnuchin, and Robert Lighthizer are apex predators. These are the "Killers" Trump talked about. Quiet, conservative, unassuming, deferential, etc. That's the surface image. But underneath.... Oh, there's the intellectual rage.
Defeating U.S. adversaries is like an intellectual hobby.... And watch what happens when they go to meetings and conventions overseas. Seriously, watch how people, especially economic adversaries, engage them. Total respect.
