So I normally hate threads like these, but I've tried solving this privately and it feels like it deserves to be out there in the open. @DavidPepper and @kirstinalv are apparently trying to freeze me out of covering the @OHDems 1/
On April 4, my editor asked me about a press release from the Ohio Democratic Party. I couldn't find it in my email so she sent it over. I then contacted @kirstinalv about it, to which she sent me the corrected release. 2/
However, when doing that, I found that I hadn't received an @OHDems press release in about a month. An oversight on my part, but I get a lot of press releases in a day and can't necessarily read them all. 3/
I asked @kirstinalv to make sure I was on the press release list. She said OK. Figured it wasn't an issue and I asked a colleague to send me their next press release in the event I didn't get it. I did not get it so I sent this email to her. 4/
No response, so I went back to look when I stopped receiving the emails. Turns out it was March 5. I couldn’t remember doing anything especially offensive around that time. I looked through my stories and found I published this story on March 6. cleveland.com/politics/2019/… 5/
I’m guessing @DavidPepper took issue with me calling Republican victories in 2018 a trouncing in the state, though I’m not really sure how I’m supposed to describe it. 6/
Either way, it should be irrelevant and I did include @DavidPepper’s perspective. Even included the @OHDems post-mortem in full. I don’t remember my call with David being contentious since the story was about Priorities USA and their thoughts on Ohio 7/
I still didn't want to think there was anything petty going on, so I asked our IT to check and make sure it wasn't something on my end like a rogue filter, to which he said it was not. 8/
I should add that I’d called both @kirstinalv and @DavidPepper over this timeframe for unrelated reasons and hadn’t received a response. Now I’d tried calling them over this and received the ignore button multiple times. Anyway, after the note from IT, I sent this email. 9/
There’s no real end to this story. Being frozen out is a personal annoyance and I'll still do my job. I would have kept this to myself but I saw the note about Pelosi speaking later this month. Can't RSVP to cover something if I don’t get the email. 10/
Considering all the tweets I’ve seen from @DavidPepper praising journalists and transparency (and the books he’s written where the main character is literally a journalist), I’d ask why it’s OK to freeze me out? Same question to @kirstinalv. 11/
Oh and I found some special irony in this tweet since, you know, I’m a journalist in NE Ohio. 12/
Anyway, my offer still stands @DavidPepper and @kirstinalv. Happy to talk about this if you want to give me a call. Until then, could you please add me to the press release list? 13/
