Upset about the tidal wave of abortion bans? Here's a THINGS TO DO thread.

It’s really important to center those who are affected the most by these restrictions and act locally. We want abortion to be affordable, compassionate, and where people live.
1. Center women of color. Donate and follow reproductive justice groups like @SisterSong, @AbortionFunds, @NLIRH, @URGE, @NAPAWF, @SPARKRJNOW, @BlackwomensRJ, @SisterReach, @NewVoicesPgh.
2. Become a member of your local abortion funds, donate monthly, and volunteer. Find yours here: abortionfunds.org/support-local-…
3. Learn how to talk about abortion in a way that doesn’t stigmatize & centers ppl who have abortions. We’re so used to old talking points but some are really harmful. When you perpetuate stigma, you perpetuate criminalization of bodies. Start here:
4. Listen to stories of people who had abortions. Start at @AbortionStories: wetestify.org
5. Remember that people of all genders have abortions, not just women.
6. Talk to people that don’t agree with you, try to meet them where they are and try to connect on values. I like these conversation cards from @AbortionFunds: abortionfunds.org/heart-to-heart/
7. If you’re a person of faith, TALK ABOUT IT. Lift that up, tell people why your faith calls you to support reproductive freedom. Organize within your house of worship or faith community. Donate to @RCRChoice.
8. If you’re a parent, talk about that! More than half of women who have abortions are mothers. Why does being a parent make you even more certain that everyone must be able to make decisions about their own bodies?
9. If you’re a health care professional who doesn’t provide abortions, we you need to you speak up! It’s powerful when clinicians talk about why they support abortion even when they don’t provide them. Learn how to be an advocate and join @prhdocs or @NursesforSRH.
10. Remember that not just doctors are abortion providers. It takes a whole community of nurses, advanced practice clinicians, doulas, clinic owners, administrative staff, escorts.
11. Read and respond locally. Learn what newspapers your state representatives read and respond with letters to the editor. Write op-eds.
12. Volunteer to be a clinic escort or train to be an abortion doula.
13. If you know an abortion provider, ask how you can support them.
14. If you know someone who had an abortion (YOU DO, but you might not know it), ask them how you can support them.
15. When you're talking about abortion bans, like the six-week bans in Georgia, be mindful that you're not spreading fear and panic. Remember that abortion is STILL LEGAL and part of the strategy of the movement it to spread confusion and perpetuate fear.
16. These are just a few suggestions and written by someone who is exhausted, but they are not exhaustive. Please add more.
