#Thread This is an important question, so let's unpack this.

1) It is our view that coalition politics are the way of stable democracies and the future of South Africa. Germany is a good example of how coalitions work.
2) The first half of the Mandela administration ticked a number of boxes in terms of how coalitions should work (although that was a Government of National Unity rather than a coalition). The cabinet had ANC, NP, and IFP ministers. It worked well.
3) A number of our municipalities are run by coalition governments. Some of these work well. Others are a disaster.
4) Mtunzini on the KZN North Coast is an IFP/DA coalition which has been stable for years and is very well run because it is based on shared values.
5) The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality coalition which elected @AtholT as mayor was a disaster because it was not based on shared principles but rather a quest for power. When the UDM was not able to have its way with the DA, it promptly switched sides to the ANC.
6) (We must point out that Joburg and Tshwane are not coalitions – the DA runs both municipalities with the tacit support of the EFF which is different. We believe this will change after the forthcoming elections because the ANC and EFF will come together then.)
7) Coalitions in our national government on the other hand are highly unlikely this year. Here's what the results were like in the 2014 elections (and the number of votes each party received.
8) So let's say the DA grows its voting base by 20% (which would be a credible result by any standard), that would give them 18 more seats taking them to barely a hundred.
9) The ANC on the other hand would need to lose 50 seats to need to form a coalition. This would translate to a 20 percent decline in their voters. Possible, but those would go to their splinter parties such as EFF BLF ATM etc.
10) So a vote for ZACP is *not* going to affect the DA's chances of power nationally. We want you to vote for us nationally and vote strategically in your province for any party that is not an ANC splinter party (DA, IFP, COPE, FF+)

That's what we are doing.
