Harvard drops law professor Ronald S. Sullivan Jr. - the school's first African-American student dean - bowing to protests by students angry that he is representing Harvey Weinstein as a criminal lawyer. He'll continue as a law professor nytimes.com/2019/05/11/us/…
Professor Sullivan validly suggested Havard's actions against him, appeasing the petulant students' protests, was motivated by race. If even college professors aren't safe when they act as criminal defense lawyers for unpopular people - vital to the justice system - we're doomed
College administrators are the world's biggest cowards. They constantly appease every stupid & misguided student protest, like parents who spoil their children by never saying no out of fear of making the kids angry. Punishing a law professor for acting as a lawyer is repellent.

Yes, MSNBC host @NicolleDWallace - who was doing messaging work for Bush/Cheney when their DOJ was run by John Ashcroft and John Yoo justifying the most grotesque crimes on the ground that the President is omnipotent & immune from law - is profoundly worried about DOJ integrity:
Trump is not the inventor of an omnipotent presidency immune from law. He's the inheritor of that model, built over decades by both parties. Many of us spent years warning its advocates that one day these powers would be wielded by someone they didn't like washingtonpost.com/posteverything…

Several of the tweets I just re-tweeted highlight the egregious errors, slimy tactics & smears here designed to imply Tulsi (who, unlike the authors, fought for the US) is a Kremlin asset. The worst is depicting anti-intervention/war positions as evidence of Russian loyalty:
In the Cold War, Americans who opposed US militarism & warned of the dangers of confrontation w/Russia were smeared as Kremlin agents. Nothing has changed. Opposing US war/intervention in Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela may "align" with Moscow's views but that doesn't make it sinister.
Also, if you're a journalist smearing someone with innuendo that they're a Kremlin asset or "apologist," or an editor tells you to, shouldn't you instinctively think: "wait, this was done to journalists & others in a shameful US period. The evidentiary bar should be very high."

The news broke in January that Sullivan would be defending Weinstein. This was controversial, but not necessarily for the reasons you may think. It’s not that people don’t believe Weinstein deserves a defense; I haven’t seen anyone say that he doesn’t.
Every student at Harvard (except for a few off-campus people) who’s a sophomore or older lives in one of our 12 Houses. All 12 Houses have faculty deans, who run the House, live among students in the House, and are supposed to be part of the community.

Students across the college, including the Association of Black Harvard Women, have asked him to step down from his role as the head of Winthrop House (a role formerly known as "House Master"). Rape survivors have told junior admins that they don't feel safe in the house.
Argument for him staying, which I've seen two Black journalists, Soledad O'Brien & Adam Serwer, make: if Sullivan, who is African American and a prof at Harvard law school, has to step down, it means he's facing repercussions for who he chooses to defend and this has consequences

🥇These members of the 115th Congress didn’t think about the political ramifications, their reputations or the timing; they just voted honorably not to table the measure to impeach a prez who is clearly not abiding by the law or representing our country the way it deserves to be.
🏆Most of these members of the 115th Congress are still in Congress, but some are Governors or in new positions. One member, Louise Slaughter D-NY, sadly died in 2018. More on her later.
