The importance of getting China to respect "our" intellectual property (1/6)
If China doesn't require technology transfers from companies like GE and Boeing (their IP, not "our" IP) then it makes it more attractive for them to outsource jobs to China (2/6)
Stronger IP protection by China also gives more money to China and people who do intellectual work. In other words, it further redistributes income upward (3/6)
More upward redistribution means rich people and their foundations can devote more money to researching the causes of inequality (ignoring IP of course (4/6)
Economists can then do important research on the causes of inequality, advancing their careers and drawing nice paychecks. The same applies to columnists and pundits of various stripes. Lots of good hand wringing (5/6)
So, we can see it's very important that the U.S. push hard to get China to respect the IP of U.S. corporations.
