I’m not the biggest fan of Jonathan Sumption but did anyone out there feel in the slightest bit enlightened by the long interview with him on @BBCr4today? I thought it was vague and incoherent.
I know he’s a very clever man so why did it sound like a right wing bloke complaining about the ‘modern state of politics’ by the water cooler?

You may think I’m being grumpy but I attended the first Reith lecture (to be broadcast next week) and I was expecting something aggravating to my politics but at least coherent. I found it to be thin and lacking in rigour. Perhaps the other lectures will be better

For those of you who do not follow this issue as ridiculously closely as I do, there is currently a pretty unattractive spat going on within the Labour Party as to which faction is ‘to blame’ for the utter disaster which is its handling of anti-Semitism...
... and this seems now to have led to rival leaks of internal emails by different factions, with accusations and counter-accusations. I have no doubt there is some backstabbing within the party (that seems to now be a standard mode of behaviour)...
...But an average person might reasonably ask whether it is *as important as it seems to those embedded in the factional culture* which faction is responsible for which bit of this omnishambles. Ultimately, this institution has a *leader* who has taken almost no responsibility...

It's shocking when you read the case against Corbyn's leadership plainly laid out. The wrong leader for the wrong time - unbending, factional, at times cowardly - and a huge waste of youthful enthusiasm around socialist ideas. Labour should have been preparing for a landslide now

@rights_info There are lots of things I’m proud of @rights_info for - pioneering human rights legal education, running the UK’s best daily human rights news service, the UK’s only dedicated human rights creative and filmmaking team...
... But most of all it’s the amazing volunteers and staff, well over 100, who have all the work and I hope have been inspired to take a positive view of human rights out to the wider world.

I have some white nonsense I would like to share with the class.
At a conference I spoke at last month, there was a tribal librarian (@anneheathen)who did a workshop on combatting white supremacy through library work. This librarian is white, but is a fierce champion of indigenous rights and BIPOC representation.
Her session was clear and concise with zero sugarcoating. She spoke AT LENGTH about how if we are to have white savior stories like To Kill a Mockingbird on our bookshelves, then we are to also advocate for stories written and told thru BIPOC points of view.

I only joined the trans debate a few months ago & was seriously jolted by the conclusion I reached. It didn't sit with my lifelong bleeding heart lefty view of myself. I've struggled with it ever since so still question myself all the time, wondering if I'm wrong. SHORT THREAD.
What it comes down to is TAs assertion that they *are* women & my belief that they're not. We can't both be right. I don't think they're women because to me it's an entirely sex-based, biological fact. Women are female. People with penises are male.
So I've been trying really hard to understand their viewpoint, that they are women because they *feel* they are. And I've really pondered, as a woman, what I *feel* that confirms I'm a woman.
