1. See this picture? It's Trump announcing his presidential campaign in June 2015. What's that in his hand that he's waving at the American people? A one-page document claiming that his net worth is $8.7 billion. Does that number sound familiar? It should
2. As we later learned from Michael Cohen's House testimony, $8.7 billion was also the figure that Trump -- a couple of years before his presidential bid -- begged Deutsche Bank to vouch for him as his net worth so the NFL could let him buy the Buffalo Bills.
3. As Cohen testified, the $8.7 billion figure was total BS. It included $4 billion as value of "the Trump brand," something no sane accountant would ever vouch for. And there's evidence that some property values -- like an estate in Westchester County -- were grossly overstated
4. Something else Trump claimed that fateful day in 2015 cracks me up: He said "a bank recently offered to loan him another $4 billion because it thought he didn't have enough debt." Sure, Donald businessinsider.com/problem-with-t…
5. Except it's not that funny. Trump started his campaign for the presidency waving a fake document before the public, just like another Roy Cohn client, Sen. Joe McCarthy. I realize 4 years later we're just supposed to roll our eyes at "Trump being Trump." But should we?
6. Lying to the public about something so fundamental to his claim on the White House - that his "business acumen" would make him a great president - is exactly the kind of "misdemeanor" that the Founders intended to be an impeachable offense. It's time to end the denial.
7. The greatest con man in American history has been elected president of the United States, but that doesn't mean we're powerless. Lying to the American people is (and has been) an impeachable offense -- one of many committed by Trump. The time for Congress to act is NOW! -30-
