The problem with @PCollinsTimes’ argument is that any achievable Brexit without enormous pain will also be howled down as “betrayal” by Farage. And leaving Brexit with enormous pain will also be howled down by him as “betrayal”.
So thinking in those terms gets you nowhere. Best just to do what you think is the right thing for the country, and then go out and persuade people. At least you’ll be able to defend something you actually believe in.
“When in doubt, do the right thing” is a surprisingly useful motto in life (and litigation, and, I suspect, politics): if you can’t work out what the consequences of a decision are, at least do something that you feel comfortable defending in public as being right.
