Of late it has become fashionable in some circles to claim that science is purely a front for privilege and oppressive power, and that race is entirely a social construct. But even in such circles, no one is fool enough to prefer a random blood transfusion

I am not saying one must be explicit about race when categorizing blood. It can be done strictly by antigen. But antigens are non-randomly distributed by population (a more rigorous and less fraught term than “race”), and more lives are saved if we heed rather than ignore it.
The point being, one isn’t entitled to enjoy the benefit of science while sabotaging the process—you can’t dine a la carte at the science buffet. If one accepts the capacity of science in the context of transfusion, one is obligated by the same logic with respect to human affairs
