I feel like a complete fool. I totally believed that the hindus of Kerala will wisen up and vote decisively for BJP in Trivandrum and Pathanamthitta. Secretly, I had hoped that we will win Thrissur and Palakkad too. (1/n)
The literate people in Kerala have chosen Congress. It is their prerogative. Good luck folks. In an election where BJP has swept, the Keralites felt otherwise. Making a few observations in this thread. (2/n)
Hindus are a minority in most districts of Kerala when Christians and Muslims join forces. These two segments also vote enbloc like the rest of the country. (3/n)
And, as usual the Hindu votes are fragmented. They are split between three parties ; Congress, Communists and BJP . (4/n)
The Upper caste Nairs ideally go with Congress and the backward caste Ezhavas are the bedrock of the Communist party. (5/n)
This elections in Kerala was a suitable opportunity to send a befitting reply to the faithless who had made it a point to willfully hurt the Hindu sentiments by their conduct in Sabarimala affairs (6/n).
I was on the ground in Pathanamthitta. I felt the simmering anger of the common folks against the arrogant ruling LDF who ordered the Sabarimala assault and the impotent UDF who were mute spectators. The women folk were completely backing @surendranbjp (7/n)
I was totally sold on the idea that the people of Pathanamthitta will move past party loyalties and deep-rooted ideological grandstanding. They will choose Lord Ayyappa. (8/n)
The LDF and UDF have repeatedly chosen to ignore the cultural sensibilities of the Hindu community. But it is strange that the Hindus still feel that Congress represents their rights. Even when Rahul Gandhi contests from Wayanad with the backing of Muslim League. (9/n)
The BJP in Kerala has been treated as a pariah for far too long. In 2016, assembly elections it was for the first time in the history of Kerala politics that O.Rajapogal became the lone representative of BJP breaking the seat drought. (10/n)
@surendranbjp had almost won that election as a candidate from Manjeshwar constituency. He lost by a mere 200 odd votes due to the deliberate machinations of both left and Congress. It was unfair then as it is unfair today. (11/n)
In a three-cornered fight, there is a distinct possibility of the better candidate winning. But to deliberately transfer votes, just to block the candidate from gaining is a tactic resorted mainly by the left. They do it with free abandon even at the cost of their loss (12/n)
Tactical voting, vote transfer, seat adjustment, dummy candidature, booth capturing, intimidation, violence, exclusion, false cases, etc. are some of the ploys that have been in use for a long time in Kerala to block entry of a third-party contender, BJP in this case (13/n)
I would also like to openly say that not all is fine with BJP Kerala too. There is a definite leadership crisis when it comes to directing the party. It needs to be urgently addressed. BJP needs to step up and capture space. (14/n)
Unless we analyze the vote share by assembly constituencies in both Trivandrum and Pathanamthitta we can't get the true picture. But one thing is for certain, Hindus have betrayed their own. (15/n)
Despite the Modi wave and decimation of Congress elsewhere, in Kerala, they have managed to bag the majority of seats. What a great irony. And this is not the first time. They did it earlier during emergency too. (16/n)
I think I am just too tired, sleepy, upset, disappointed despite all the celebratory mood. I am going to stop these incoherent rants. This is only the second time that I have cried. The first time was when Kejriwal won in Delhi. Sorry for being a spoilsport. (17/n)
Please enjoy the victory of @narendramodi and @BJP4India. We owe them this second chance. It is our victory. Congratulations to all the volunteers. We have to be their strength. (18/n)
My only request to people of Kerala is that they give BJP a chance. They deserve it. Hell yeah, you deserve it too! May better sense prevail in 2021. (19/n)
Funnily enough, I had written an article congratulating Surendran's win in Pathanamthitta. Will need to bin it. Good day folks. Enjoy the celebrations (20/20)
