Wow this had never happened before. Three Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs friends recently moved to Madrid.
Main reason: remarkable local technical talent pool that is more loyal and affordable than in Silicon Valley and a thriving start up community.
Also important: Beckham law very low taxes for 5 years. Ability to entice people from all other European countries who love living and working in Spain. Spanish is a common second language for a lot of people.
Barcelona? If no kids Barcelona it's also phenomenal for tech. If with kids, most find kids being forced to learn Catalan a waste of educational years. Instead Spanish is used by 500 million.
How can you legally move to Spain if you are a successful entrepreneur from anywhere in the world? Buy a home for half a million euros or bring 1 million in assets. Invest and create quality high paying jobs in Spain. So smart of Spain to have these laws.
But there is one anti entrepreneurial anti start up law, the exit tax. That you have to watch out for!

Yo mismo he estudiado catalán.
