Democratic Excuses for Avoiding Impeachment, Debunked. Based on @peterdaou's "There Are No Good Arguments Against Impeachment"
😩"The Senate won’t convict so there’s no point..."

💠Then why do House Democrats continue passing bills that fail in Senate? It's not the Democrats' job to base a failure to impeach on predictions, it's their job to defend our Constitution & rule of law.
😩"Democrats need to gather more evidence to make an airtight case for impeachment. "

💠Hogwash. Hooey.

Trump has produced a veritable superstore - a Walmart of impeachable offenses to pick from with tons of publicly available evidence alone.
😩Democrats are already winning in the courts by compelling Trump to produce documents.

💠Not mutually exclusive.

"There is no reason not to open impeachment proceedings immediately even while using the courts as a pressure point."
😩"Impeachment interferes with ongoing investigations."

💠Horsefeathers! Bovine colonic extrusions!

"The impeachment process has zero impact on any federal or state criminal or civil investigations."
😩"Trump is 'goading' Democrats and 'self-impeaching.'"

💠Mindreading is not a reliable tool, and if Dem leaders were adept at it, then why has the GOP gotten so powerful on their watch?

"'He’s doing our work for us' is another way of saying “we’re not doing our job."
😩"Speaker Pelosi and her colleagues have a “secret plan” and are playing the 'long game.'"

💠OKA a bridge to sell. Swampland.

"There is absolutely nothing in the real world to support the claim that Democratic leaders know how to stop Trump’s relentless march to autocracy."
😩"Impeaching Trump will rile up his base and enable him to play the victim."

💠 So? What, we tiptoe around like Trump's not going to play the victim anyway? HAVE YOU SEEN THIS GUY?

"It is a constitutional obligation to defend and protect our system of government."
😩Impeachment is a distraction from the Democratic agenda.

💠Baaaloney.

"They’re saying they plan to do nothing substantively to protect the public interest against rampant corruption... they undermine both their own power & the legitimacy of the institution they represent."
😩"The public is against impeachment."

💠"Protecting our democracy and upholding the rule of law should not be driven by polls. But even if Democrats want to gauge public sentiment, they’ll find that a majority of Democrats [70% per @FiveThirtyEight] support impeachment"
😩"Impeachment is too divisive."

💠Crystal ball thinking that omits some analysts' theories that impeachment will fracture the Republican Party between its moderates and RWNJs.

"No matter what Democrats do, Republican leaders will do their best to divide America." Duh.
💠Starting #ImpeachmentInquiryNow doesn't commit Democrats to impeachment.

"Impeachment is a process, not an outcome, a rule-bound procedure for investigating a president, considering evidence, formulating charges, and deciding whether to continue on to trial."
💠"Speaker Pelosi admitted that Trump is conducting 'an assault on the Constitution... [his] obstruction of justice is in plain sight.' So why not impeach him for it? "
💠The Democrats' "inexplicable inaction isn’t about building public support, as some claim. It is about placing politics over principle."

Impeachment inquiry is a "fact-finding process. There’s no doubt that opening an inquiry strengthens the hand of Congress in forcing compliance with subpoenas, whether it’s for documents or individuals." -@davidcicilline
"We should be having the conversation about... how this will help us break through the stonewalling... at that point the only avenue that we have left is the constitutional means to enforce the separation of powers, which is a serious discussion of impeachment." -@RepTedDeutch
Nadler acknowledged that "opening an impeachment inquiry 'might' empower his investigations, but he pointed to a federal judge’s ruling Monday to uphold a Democratic subpoena as proof that the courts could help the party."
Rep. Raskin (D-Md), chairman of a Judiciary subcommittee,...argued that an impeachment inquiry 'would allow leadership to streamline and centralize all of the investigations into one—& let everyone else focus on the Democratic agenda items that won them the majority in 2018."
"Lieu pointed out that Democrats don’t have to impeach Trump just because they begin an inquiry...Democrats could start an impeachment inquiry right away & be done with it before 2020, allowing lawmakers to focus on their agenda when they run for reelection."
Some in Pelosi’s leadership team rebel on impeachment, press her to begin an inquiry
