Geez this is an important point to make. As I said in thread below - scaring people that change is a bad thing is always easier than convincing them change will make them better off. A thread👇🏻
Aforementioned thread about hope versus change here:
We live in a capitalist society. There will always be imbalance of power between those fighting for status quo - the capitalists who are doing very nicely - who by the by have the money to fight hard (Palmer $60million) versus those who want inequality addressed - everyone else.
We think of ourselves as a free democracy, but this democracy exists within a biased system of power, where those with money can influence voters far more effectively than those without. In the seat I campaigned in, Sturt - Lib spent a million. On one seat. How do we compete?
This biased system of power is replicated in the media. Corporate interests own most of the media and influence the parts of it they don’t own. Just one example - why do you think tax is ALWAYS framed as a bad thing? Because the corporate interests don’t like it.
I said it months ago and here we are - Labor have always had to compete with the Liberals, Big Business and media. Labor want change - these three rich and powerful forces don’t want change. To call it David and Goliath is an undertstatement.
Last point - this is why I’ve also pleaded for all progressives to put their hands on the left-wing rope to help in this challenge. A divided Left is weaker. Labor are weak enough as it is, without a fourth force to contend with - the Greens. End.
