Trump and his supporters including Fox News are already attempting to spin Mueller's statement today as a get out of jail free card.

But that's the problem with Mueller. As I noted previously: Robert Mueller's only real mistake is thinking that all Americans are as smart, rational, and as duty-bound to the Republic as he is.

He has a much, much higher opinion of Americans than we deserve.

It's ironic, isn't it? That one of the few remaining Republicans with any integrity is the one who just might let Trump off the hook?

Sarah Huckabee Sanders just now, "If Bob Mueller had thought there was wrongdoing and was sure of it, he would have had a moral obligation to say that. He didn't. In fact, he did the opposite. He concluded that there was no collusion, there was no conspiracy."

Sanders' definition of "moral" and mine are very, very different.

Of course, Mueller didn't say any of that, but because of what he DIDN'T say, the Administration can spin it however they want and their goose-stepping supporters will believe them.

THIS, right here, is why Trump must be impeached.

Trump must be impeached in the House. Investigated in the open, forced to testify, forced to give up the information, forced to show his tax returns, forced to show his campaign records, all of it.

The ONLY way to restore even a modicum of confidence in the Republic is to begin impeachment now. If he's found innocent, so be it. If he's found guilty, then so be that too. But we must know.

We must know, or we must acknowledge the end of our nation. Here. Now.

Mueller's statement is a clear call for Congress to duty its Constitutionally mandated duty: begin the impeachment investigation in the House.

Note that Trump, Sanders, et all, just gloss right over the certain Russian attacks called out by Mueller today and in his report. They've done NOTHING to protect America from foreign assault and for that, if for nothing else, they must be removed from office.

Now, I know what you're going to say.

"We can't impeach him! Republicans failed to impeach Clinton and it was disaster! Clinton got even more popular! So, no matter what Trump does, Democrats in congress must NEVER attempt to remove him because it could totally backfire!"

Let me ask you a question: If impeachment is off the table, then why any further resistance?

Why resist in the first place? Why bother with an investigation at all? Why even bother to point out Trump's continued abuse of office?

Since the Senate, as you say, won't do its duty, since impeachment might backfire, since impeachment is really about perception and winning the next election and not, you know, the integrity of the Republic, why not just knuckle under? Fall in line. Heil Trump! Heil!

Listen to me: Because of the way the rules were set up, the Special Counsel could not charge Trump with a crime. He couldn't even consider it.

And even if McConnell blocks impeachment in the Senate, even if Clinton's impeachment blew up in Newt Gingrich's corpulent greasy face, even if we can't win, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
