Those of you new to the space might not be aware of how much time and energy @TheBlueMatt has dedicated to building Bitcoin. Let's take a look at some of the highlights.
When he was still in high school, he was contributing PRs to Bitcoin. Making sure nodes can reach each other on the network? That's Matt (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…). Encrypting wallets to keep your private keys safe? Also Matt (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…).
Have you ever used an SPV wallet? That works because of Matt (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…)

Like having your node process and propagate blocks quickly? That was Matt too (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…)
How about the fact that the monolithic Bitcoin Core was re-architected into 'net processing' and 'validation' layers? Matt (github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi…)
You like Lightning, right? Lightning is an extension of the earlier payment channel concept. Who wrote an implementation of payment channels in 2013? You guessed, it was Matt (bitcointalk.org/index.php?topi…)
Ever installed Bitcoin Core from a PPA? Matt put that there for you (launchpad.net/~bitcoin/+arch…)

Wondering why you hardly ever see stale blocks any more ()? Matt built FIBRE to speed up block propagation (bitcoinfibre.org).
Think mining is too centralized? Matt created BetterHash to help (github.com/TheBlueMatt/bi…)

Want to integrate lightning into your application? Matt's building rust-lightning to do that for you (github.com/rust-bitcoin/r…).
This is a tiny fraction of the hundreds of PRs that Matt has written, tested and reviewed. Here are his merged PRs: github.com/bitcoin/bitcoi….

Matt understand Bitcoin better than almost anyone else in the world.
But on top of all of that, Matt's done more than almost anyone to build a welcoming Bitcoin developer community and help people get into Bitcoin protocol development.
In 2016 he ran the first Chaincode residency (bluematt.bitcoin.ninja/2016/08/08/cha…). He gave his time freely to help me and three other developers get started in Bitcoin.

Without Matt generously giving his time and expertise, I wouldn't be working in Bitcoin open source development today.
Thanks Matt, it's a privilege to work alongside you ❤️
