A heartwarming story on the power of open source community, a thread - @khnidk and I have been working on a rather large change in #Kubernetes to allow support for ipv4/ipv6 dual stack. It's a MASSIVE change which touches many parts of the code (as you can imagine). 1/10
This week is code freeze for the 1.15 release and we are trying to get this change in. It needs review by the sponsoring sig of the KEP. Which in this case is sig-network 2/10
So Kal did the work and got the PR ready and handed it over to sig-network. Extremely tight timeline given the size. Could we have gotten it to them earlier, sure. We probably could have done a lot of things to make this easier on everyone. 3/10
The code freeze timing for this release is a little unfortunate because it lands 1 week after KubeCon and off the back of a long weekend. Not ideal, but it's what we have to work with. KubeCon is a known thing 4/10
So we hand it over to @thockin for review and he graciously receives it and commits to getting a review done. Despite all odds and timelines he takes it in his stride, doesn't complain, just commits to helping. 5/10
So Tim turns around and puts the call out to sig-network to help with the review. Literally, an army shows up to help. We are now all working through reviews AS a team. Everyone offering to help. 6/10
I honestly cannot believe the level of support we have in this community. Thanks to all that have showed up and offered their time to help. I'm speechless. 7/10
The work still isn't done and we may not even land the code in 1.15 (update, it's not but that's okay) but I witnessed a very powerful thing today. 8/10
A massive thanks to everyone involved in sig-network and the 1.15 release team. Also to everyone in the Kubernetes community that offers to help day-in day-out. 9/10
Special thanks to @thockin @vllry @a_sykim and every else (sorry if I missed you, I really am) who answered the call and came to assist. You are the people that make this community AWESOME! 👏 10/10
PS. For those playing at home, here is the PR github.com/kubernetes/kub…
