We’re already experiencing the effects of #ClimateChange: intense flooding, droughts & storms are devastating communities nationwide.

We must act boldly, not bury our heads in the sand like Trump did when he announced he’ll withdraw from the #ParisAgreement 2 yrs ago today.
Trump’s actions are just as unacceptable today as they were then.

We should be leading the way towards a sustainable future, not backsliding because people refuse to acknowledge basic facts. I’ll continue to fight for a better world for our children & grandchildren.

I know firsthand the difference a teacher can make in a child’s life. While I was in high school, my dad lost his job & my family relied on food stamps to get by. I remember going to the grocery store and counting out the last five food stamps to get some baloney and white bread.
Time and again, my English teacher saved me and a few other kids from going hungry by having us stay and do work after the final bell, reaching into his own pocketbook and giving us each a few dollars to get food on our way home.
As 16-year-olds we loved him, but couldn’t understand why he made us stay after school so often. Now, I understand why he made us stay so late. He was feeding us – even on a public school teacher’s salary.

16 yrs ago today, the US-led invasion of Iraq began. All this time later, we’re still stuck in two seemingly endless wars. As I recently laid out, our troops & our nation deserve better. There are so many steps we can take to ensure our military remains the strongest in the world
Despite the President’s latest proposal, we can’t just keep throwing together huge defense budgets every year & think that’s enough.
Our power abroad stems from our strength here on U.S. soil. It’s past time we recognize that funding our domestic priorities—like education, healthcare and green energy—actually bolsters our national security.

Not surprisingly, @realdonaldtrump’s @OMBPress Acting Director hasn’t done an assessment of the effects of cutting our Army Corp & infrastructure funds.

And he hasn’t incorporated any funding to prepare for the effects of #climatechange or sea level rise.
Much of the news coverage assumes #Trumpbudget will be taken seriously.

So far under @realDonaldTrump, Congress has three times passed bipartisan, bicameral spending measures that pretty much ignored Trump White House. politico.com/story/2019/03/…
Maybe this time will be different, but don’t bet on it.

When you start with a ludicrous budget, and no one in the administration can be trusted to negotiate with, you dial yourself out of the conversation.

The president says outrageous things like climate change is a hoax engineered by the Chinese and raking forests will prevent catastrophic wildfires.
But serious consequences like collapsing coastal housing prices and trillions of dollars in stranded fossil fuel assets await us if we don’t act.
