Sarah's #mvmtorigins ⬇:
I was born & raised in CA's Central Valley, which has historically been home to poverty, low educational attainment rates, air we can't breathe & water we can't drink. There's also a strong historical tradition of organizing /1
(like the farmworker movement!) The youth here are rising. After graduating college, when I decided to go into campaign work I knew I had to return home where it's needed the most. /2
Growing into organizing has been a journey, from the imposter syndrome of being a queer woman campaigning in rural&conservative areas, to adapting to chronic pain that makes this work even more challenging. /3
But for me, it's all about community & doing right by others. And that will always keep me going at the end of the day. I'm grateful for all that MVMT School has taught me & the community of organizers we've developed. /4
I've spent the past 3 yrs in the campaign world, +I've seen how this space has been traditionally limited to the same people -predominantly white, w/ a family who can support their incomes btw jobs, and have often been doing so since they've been able to take unpaid internships/5
For this I truly appreciate MVMT School's leadership in training people from every background to ensure that our movement looks like the people it's for. So in closing... Apply for Summer 19!! /6
