Forced evictions & demolitions during #Covid_19 in Pakistan.
As “Eviction” contradicts the “stay at home” policy, the United Nations has called on member states & governments at all levels to stop all migrations & evictions at this time of pendamic covid-19.
@KarachiUrbanLab
The recent effects of the #COVIDー19 are causing a lot of problems around the world, especially for people who have suffered significant loss of #income. In such a difficult and critical time, ‘#home’ has become a ‘#defense’ against the #coronavirusPandemic.
States around the world are ordering people to stay “at home” to prevent the spread of Covid-19. But at the same time, many states are at risk of being evicted, while at least 150 million people worldwide are homeless and living on temporary shelters or sidewalks.

I know you are a nice person, @arsetechnica who means well, so this thread is for you.

I oppose the death penalty but I'm not an expert so I listen to and donate to experts like you.

I'm an expert on health & #climate impacts from #oilandgas with over 16 yrs experience.
I worked for #oilandgas.
I was a directly impacted landowner and a mineral owner, which is how I became a health and environmental advocate.
I've been OGI certified for over 6 yrs and have more experience behind an OGI camera than most regulators and industry.
First I thought: Oh, this #fracking is a mess and someone needs to make them do it right. I co-authored Drill Right Texas. I had good intentions, but insufficient information.

#oilandgas promised in 2005 to stop the emissions that turned my air brown.

#COVID19 #PTFCOVID19

Healthy #soil sequesters #carbon, promotes the growth of nutrient-dense crops, holds more #water, and fights disease. What #farming practices can get you there? A thread:
Cover crops 🌿 When fields are bare, they're vulnerable to #erosion and #nutrient loss. Planting cover crops protects against this, while also smothering weeds, controlling pests, retaining #water, and enhancing #biodiversity.
Crop rotation 🔄 By refusing to plant the same #crop over and over, #farmers can return nutrients to the #soil without synthetic inputs. Crop rotation also wards off pests and disease, which have a harder time adapting with constantly-changing crops.

#AquaFonsVitae, first take:

Remarkably situates itself in the radical present, aka #COVID19, para 6. Reminder: this is a text on #water.
Explainer for newbies: Vatican emphasis on “connectedness” and “integral human development” are key Catholic Social Teaching (CST) terms, used in reference to #water since approx 2002 (see my book) and #ecology (see #LaudatoSi, 2015).
… as is this doc’s subsequent emphasis on universal destination of created goods (see #JustWater ch. 4), right to safe environment, and access to potable water. All of this is intro paras and is classic CST on water, though here more condensed than ever before! Fun.

#Water management system has been amazingly centuries old thing in India.
at Shringverpur or Sringaverapura near #Allahabad PrayagRaj, one of the amazing canal system was in existence.
water collected via structures & surplus returned to river?
there exists extraordinary example of hydraulic engineering dated end of 1st century BC.
comprises of 3 percolation-cum-storage tanks, fed by an 11m wide & 5 m deep canal that used to skim floodwaters off monsoon-swollen Ganga

rainwaterharvesting.org/Solution/Histo…
Water first entered a silting chamber, dirt settled here. Then relatively clean water flows in a brick-lined tank, later to Tank B through a stepped inlet

Next, water passed to a circular Tank C, which had an elaborate staircase. excess water flowed back into Ganga

3/ @MthuliNcube allocated $259million to the construction of Kunzvi Dam in the 2020 budget. I demand to know if those funds were remitted to the relevant authorities for the work to commence & to know why the project hasn't commenced yet? #Water is life!

A thread to cover some of the major - and I mean seriously, shockingly major - gaps, mistakes and problems with the #environmental impact assessment for Montijo airport in #Portugal.

First up: no #fieldwork. AT ALL. 1/
That's right – the EIA of a major international #airport proposed for the country’s most important #wetland site for #bird #conservation didn’t bother to actually count any #birds.

Instead, they depended on studies already published for other reasons.

How did that work out? 2/
Well, the data on birds feeding in the #intertidal- the largest and most important #habitat in the #SPA- was collected in 2002-3.

In the 17 years since, the #Tagus has changed a lot for birds. Improved #water treatment but drastic increase in #shellfish harvesting. 3/

@WinStarCross A+B=C

A) FSA previously used was not "high purity"

B) In a new chemical process, paying 36% more removes "public concerns".

C) Brian's body burden of heavy metals is higher than is planned in the future, and that of people who disbelieve #fluorothink articles.
@WinStarCross Continuing my #fluorothink analysis of this paragraph...

So some "public concerns about the form of fluorosilicic acid that previously was used - a byproduct of the fertilizer production process."

Does this say the high purity form is not a byproduct? No. Does it imply it? Yes.
@WinStarCross The "high purity" fluorosilicic acid may not be a byproduct of the fertilizer production process.

Does the article explain a different origin for it?

No.

Apart from your own kids, if you must I suppose, it's not your job to plug #fluorothink to any innocent patient populace.

In 3 days I cycled 🚴‍♂️ 250+kms across villages in Kumbakonam.

Why? There is a discourse in the media about #India but I wanted to seek the truth about India.

What started as a self-indulgent hobby helped me embark on a self-discovery journey.

🧵on my return-to-your-roots trip,
Place: Most of the time I cycled through the scenic routes that go from one village to another, never-ending lush green paddy fields on either side of the road, my gratitude to #farmers 🙏

I bathed on the #water bodies on my route, it helped me beat the heat during the day
I'm in 💕 with these people

The most striking factor was how close-knit the communities are.

During the course of my ride, I answered 100+ locals asking me what a stranger like me was doing in their #village

Kids waving at you as you cycle by is almost unconditional love.
