Just saw the @BBCNewsnight report on licence fees for the over 75s, and was struck by the similarity between the discussion there, and the discussion on university tuition fees. 1/
In both cases, the problem is caused by Government, and by austerity. Funding is cut. But the focus is on the actions of the BBC and the universities, who are merely choosing between invidious ways to recoup their losses. 2/
Public perception is that the BBC and universities are over-charging, and not delivering value for money. They are urged to make efficiencies. Employment standards fall. 3/
And, bizarrely, the Government's role is, by and large, ignored. It is not a sophisticated ruse or anything; and it should be much more strongly called out. 4/4
