Rolling blackouts that California's (and soon other state's) utilities are using to combat fires are yet another reason to do more distributed renewable power.
This is true if you—homeowner, business—want uninterrupted power. But also if you want to help sustain local grids that rely less on transmission lines.
So many residential units can in CA can supply most/all of their own power! For the home/apartments, and rechargeable cars. The faster we move to this inevitable future the better.
My family not there yet. we purchase a 100% renewable package from @CleanPowerSF, slightly more than standard PG&E (which also offers 100% renewable packages.) We have a plug-in hybrid. We don't drive a ton, buy gas idk, 2-4 times a month? Hope to go full solar by year's end.
The more distributed the power, the less strain on the big grids. We also need to upgrade transmission lines. But your home in vast swaths of the US can collect and store most if not all of the power you need.
