In 1082 Turkmen reached the prefecture of Pisidia, around the lake Pousgouse. The Greek population of the region barricaded in the islands of this lake. As no help appeared & the border 100km away, the ~6k islanders reached a modus vivendi with the Turkmen settled in the coast.
But in 1130 Emperor Ioannes Komnenus appeared with an army of 40k and defeated the Turks clearing the whole region of Pisidia from Turkmen nomads. However, people of the island refused to surrender & prepared for siege as the pro-Turkish party was the strongest inside the walls.
The Emperor tried to negotiate & after failure he ordered bombardment with his 29 huge trebuchets and a simultaneous attack by light infantry on boats. In the same day the island fortress was captured & the imperial flag raised after 48 years. The Turkophile leaders were executed
The new emperor, Manuel Comnenus, son of Ioannes, launched a new campaign in 1176 to conquer Iconium and solve once and for all the Turkish issue of C12th Anatolia. In the battle of Myriocephalum siege machines were destroyed & the campaign ended. Pisidia became Turkish again.
In 1190, when 30k German soldiers of Frederick Barbarossa crossed this region, they witnessed the same older situation. A region full of Turkish nomads living in tents as plunderers and the Greeks, who lived in a castle on an lake-island and were vassals of the Turkish chieftains
The status of these people in the island became permanent, but their geographic isolation allow them to survive as a distinct ethnic group until the C20th. They were called Nislides (Nisi=island in Greek). Now, the lake name= Egirdir (940m altitude), the island name Nisi=Yesilada
Nislides of lake Pousgousi (Nikitas Choniatis), together w/ their neighbors Greeks of Sparta of Asia Minor were occupied in famous carpet industry. After 1922 population exchange they settled in Nea Ionia district of Athens were they rebuild the carpet industry of their homeland
