This thread by @newsjunkyjimmy is the sort of thing that only a local reporter who is focusing on a particular issue will come across, and its why protecting our industry and our jobs from the ravages of the big tech robber barons is so important
I was pleasantly surprised at how Republicans and Democrats largely seemed to get this during the House hearing on how Google, Facebook, Apple and other tech giants are crippling the news business. savejournalism.org/2019/06/12/acr…
Bipartisanship is rare in Congress. And given the fact that President Trump hates the free press and is constantly bashing us, it was heartening to see Republicans standing up for the long term viability of our industry.

In Ghana there are religious gangs that are quasi-sanctioned by the state that hunt down and murder LGBT people. And they do so in horrendous ways. Ghanaian asylum seekers routinely make their way from brazil where they can get a visa to fly to our southern border
They can’t get asylum in countries they transit through, so they walk for much of the journey and endure insane hardships because we have held ourselves out as the refuge for oppressed people. Because they want to live free of the fear they will be killed for who they are.

The Nazis visited El Paso to learn how our government was using camps to “delouse” migrant workers. It’s where they found zyklon-b.
I’ve tweeted about this many times over the years, including passages from relevant books and newspaper articles from the time. I’m uninterested in digging it up again, but luckily there’s a thing called google for finding it
Look if concentration camp offends sensibilities, fine. Semantics are the last fucking thing we need to be worrying about, and if that’s your hangup ... whatever. Call it what you want. It’s horrendous and unforgivable cruelty in a very real, very immediate sense.

There are countless reasons why the people who are fleeing their home countries come to the southern US border, it's mind boggling. But 1 thing always sticks out when you talk to these people, who come not just from Central America, but from Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Before I started moving with Nigerians, I used to think all men are the same, but as I made friends with Nigerians, I noticed all men aren't. It was very obvious in fact. The may Nigerian men talk and act to ladies is absolutely remarkable.
