Russia's influence operations are far-reaching, aimed at a number of countries. This, of course, includes ops aimed at US voters in 2016, but also includes their own people. 58 Russian-language accounts tweeted regional "news" related to Crimea, Syria, and other military action.
44 US-directed local "news" accounts amassed over half a million followers. By using local-sounding news source names, they were able to dupe Americans from *other* regions to share what they thought was authentic news.

1. The President's tweet this morning doesn't change his claims about the Trump Tower in any way! He says the meeting was about getting dirt on Clinton and that he did not know of it ahead or or at the time it took place. Let's look at the facts:
2. The meeting in Trump Tower took place on June 9, 2016. Involved Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, & Paul Manafort from Trump's team along with the Russians. Rob Goldstone, a business acquaintance of the Trumps had told Don Jr. that he knew of people who had dirt on Hillary.
3. Those people included Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, so Don Jr knew from the start that the meeting involved getting dirt on Hillary and it was coming from Russian interests. There is nothing illegal about getting dirt on an opponent or getting it from foreigners....
