Thanks to to person who alerted me to this screenshot @Docstockk is circulating. I continue to invite folks to consider whether they want to publish with a journal whose lead editor is very public about her transphobia.
It’s not a smear campaign. It’s one tweet inviting folks to look at her Twitter & read her stuff or watch a video of one of her talks & decide for yourself if you want to be associated with the journal she runs. I don’t. Done.
This, for me, emerges from a longer history of the journal publishing some questionable stuff anyway that had me concerned about their editorial process but that’s neither here nor there.

I’m polyamorous so not exactly single but I love my life mostly as a single, childless person. I live for my friends, family, partners, and students. I live for joy, for creating change, for my writing, my organizing. I live to make the world better for myself & those like me.
I understand the OP was being genuine but seriously yall. Romantic partners & children are not a replacement for having a will to live. Relationships end. Children grow up. People die. You have to exist for yourself & invite others to share in your existence.
I’ve been thinking about this & just wanted to add that my tweet is not intended to be a bootstraps thing. It’s intended to say that society has told us our value is in our ability to have romantic love & reproduce, but our value is so much more.

I appreciate folks recommending their fav public intellectuals to me. I looked at so many websites yesterday & it’s really helpful. So as a thank you, here is a thread for transparency on what I’m doing here.
My original tweet said that I was looking for models & mentors. That language is very purposeful. I recognize, particularly at this point in my career, that the people I want to learn from are excessively busy & in demand.
Looking for models means finding people who appear to be doing the kind of work you want to do (or living the kind of life you want to live) & learning as much as you can about how they did it.

I’ve been thinking about how this traumatized a generation of queer folks who lost friends & meant those coming of age in the 00’s had so few queer adults in our lives too, so few models for living a long happy queer life. We are impacted by their absence.
This is why I fight so hard to be a present, out, queer adult in the lives of all my friends’ kids. I remember the few folks I read as queer as being lifelines for me even as I never spoke to them about queerness. I just watched them as often as I could from a distance.
My elementary school gym teacher. The public library volunteer. My high school religion teacher. My neighbor’s adult sister. They were few & far between in small town KY, but I saw them. I committed them to memory. Their existence let me know there was something else out there.

THREAD: 1/ Today I did something I have never done before, which was to withdraw an article under review after receiving reviewer feedback. I got a tremendous feeling of satisfaction doing this and wanted to share to help others going through similar issues.
2/ Like all authors, I (and coauthors) waited months to receive reviewer feedback on an article. We were patient even when the deadline they advised for their decision had passed. We like others were at the mercy of the reviewers and had to wait it out.
3/ When we did eventually get out feedback we suffered the wrath of reviewer 2. Reviewer 1 was supportive and constructive in their feedback and requested some amendments and then resubmit. Reviewer 2 was a different story, but this will come as nothing new to many

Do you know Emma Morel - she is a Legal Executive last known to be working at @GardnerLeader solicitors in Berkshire. This woman has falsely accused me of sexual offences on no les than four occasions, all of which have been investigated by Police and been proven to be lies.
On the last two occasions, Police sought advice from the @cpsuk for charging her with Perverting the course of justice. Unfortunately, CPS didn't agree, and as a result she gets off scot-free. Until now. Because her allegations were provably lies...
She is NOT entitled to anonymity, and so I am able to name her here, a non-UK webiste, posted to from a non-uk location. Ms Morel, also knows as Emma Jordan and emma Dance, made her first false allegation against me in the 1990's. I was not even in the same country as her...

So I am a traditionally published author. This means that, under ideal circumstances, someone else assumes the risk of printing, storage, distribution, etc., and I am paid a percentage of whatever they make when they sell a book.
Most of my publishers (DAW, Tor.com, Orbit, Marvel) are Quite Large, and very equipped to assume this risk. I never become involved with the supply chain and, to date, none of my books with these publishers have gone out of print/reverted to me.

I keep seeing tweets from young women asking for advice in dealing w/ the onslaught of journalist requests they get after they speak publicly about sexual harassment or violence (especially in the wake of high profile accusations). So here's a short guide to how to manage these:
1. Look up the journalist online. Have they written about sexual assault/violence before? Do you like their approach? Are they giving accusers more air time? Does their publication tend to present these stories in a way that doesn't exploit young women?
2. Ask the journalist what their timeline is. Within the limits of their print deadline you are allowed to schedule this at your convenience. Take some time to think about what you want to say and how you want to say it. Make notes.
