#SexWorkers remind us sex work is about work. Like all workers they #deserve #rights and #protection against violence at workplace, stigma and discrimination in society.

Current criminalisation (in majority of African countries) of sex work means #sexworkers are on the front-line of #GBV in that the perpetrator knows they are unlikely to report it, and that they are vulnerable and unprotected.

In the context of #MeToo: sex workers face judgement, stigma, blatant systematic discrimination. In media, they’re punished 4 their nonconforming sexuality by being criminalized/slut-shamed.

Ladies and gentlemen, a parable.

Imagine lawmakers decide that women would be better off if they didn't work more than 20 hrs/ week. They'd be happier at home (even if they can't or won't admit it); they hate their jobs; women's independence destabilizes the family, whatever. 1/
So now it's a crime to employ a woman for more than 20 hrs/ week, and, if you're a woman, it's illegal to work more than that. (This particular law would obviously be unconstitutional; not the point.) But then someone comes along and says, Wait a minute! 2/
Our goal was to make women better off by causing them to work less, but some are still working too much AND facing criminal charges to boot. We need to focus enforcement efforts on the employers, who are inducing these women ("these women") to work too much. 3/

If your feminism doesn’t include supporting sex worker rights, than you aren’t a real feminist. Here are 10 reasons why decriminalizing sex work is a real feminist issue.…
Prostitution is absolutely just another job, as is stripping, pro-domming, cam modeling, and porn performing. These jobs should absolutely be decriminalized and de-stigmatized. #sexwork #sexworkiswork #sexworkersvote
Many intelligent, well-informed self-described feminists believe sex work should never be decriminalized. In fact, the decriminalization of sex work is perhaps the single most divisive subject within feminism today. #sexwork #SexWorkIsWork #sexworkersvote

“We’re 5 whores at @Yale -It feels really good! We are used to being excluded from institutions & places of power & being invisible. We think of #sexwork as being totally separate from these kind of spaces & we walk among you every day and everywhere.” #RebLaw25 -@MissLoreleiLee

1/? Last thread. I’ll keep it brief.

I cannot stand the anti sex work hive mind, esp from the left.

I rarely talk about all my trauma, because I know it will be used against me.

But f*ck it. Here we are. Let’s get honest about the sex trade and survival under this system
2 I was born to a drug addict/alcoholic dad and a severely mentally ill mom. In the west side of Chicago. They had no water, no heat, no food. It was real since I took my first breath.

Eventually child services got us. I went to foster care.

This was life 🤷🏾‍♀️
3 in foster care, we got shuffled. Nobody wanted all of us. I eventually ended up w/ a white conservative family that wanted a cute black girl to show off/clean the house.

It was shitty, but better than “all you can eat popcorn night” eating 🍿 make u realize how good food is

Ok, here’s a test for all the purported “#sexpositive” “feminists”. Y’all despise “moralistic” views of sexuality, huh? You think sex should be commodified and prostitution should be a job like therapy or tutoring?
Why are we clutching our pearls over “#SexualHarassment”? Why even have this #MeToo shit? What makes sexual harassment any different or worse than all other forms of harassment? What makes grabbing pussies any worse than grabbing someone’s arm? And at that...
What’s wrong with some dude asking his intern to blow him? There’s nothing wrong with asking to make coffee or deliver papers. Isn’t it “just work”? #BlowJobsAreRealJobs, eh? And at that, if prostitution is fully decriminalized, some creep going around asking women to suck his

Happy Worker’s Day, everyone! Today exists for everyone who does a job, no matter what that job is, or who does it. I would like to bring special attention to those of us who work in showbiz, often with terrible hours for little pay. 1/?
Norway doesn’t have a union specifically for stage techs, sound techs, light techs, stagehands, and other behind the scenes folk who do their work mostly freelance. Unless you can get a steady job at a theatre or a music venue, you have no job security, no pension. 2/?
I would also like to bring your attention to the plight of sex workers, who are (with the exception of countries where it’s all decriminalised) at best forced to work in unsafe conditions, and at worst get arrested if they report a sexual assault. 3/?

Quickie thread: You are likely to see certain anti sex industry activists start putting forward arguments in favour of the Nordic Model, two rules of thumb: (i) Check the footnotes; (ii) Remember basic guides to academic references from first year university /1
Nordic Model advocates will link to the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women in Australia's document "Demand Change: Understanding the Nordic Approach to Prostitution" - if a student submitted this in one of my classes, they would fail.… /2
Of the 43 references in the report, only six are academic papers in peer reviewed journals (green) + 12 were gov reports (yellow) - the rest are websites, books and op-eds (blue) or deliberately misleading "journals" and "papers" which aren't what they seem (red) /3 #SpringSt
