Here we are: June 19th. New comic book day, and the release date for THE AMAZING NIGHTCRAWLER issue #5. It's over.
This was always a limited series, part of a gated AU that had a set beginning and end. We didn't get canceled. I told a story in five issues, and finished it, and I'm proud of what I did.
I'm still deeply saddened. When you sign with a traditional literary agent, one of the first things they do is ask you what you want out of your career. This is so they can talk you down if you say you're going to be the next JK Rowling, and so they can go for what you want.
I told @dianafox, all the way back in that early conversation, that I wanted to be famous enough that I'd be allowed to write the X-Men.
Statistically, very few women have had the opportunity to write cape comics, and this was ten years ago; I had no way of knowing what the modern business would look like. I thought I was asking the impossible.
And then @writeneski reached out to me, to ask if I wanted to write an X-Men annual. And then @chrisrobinson realized that I would do whatever he wanted me to do.
I am so grateful to both of them, and to @cracksh0t, for letting me keep coming back. And to @ZacBeThompson and @Lon_Monster, for allowing me to be a part of the Age of X-Man.
Thanks to all my fellow AoXM writers, especially @mymonsterischic, with whom I shall form a horrifying hive mind, and @definitelyvita, who is a true delight.
This AU, which was always here to go, allowed me to write some of my favorite characters, to say things about their powers, and to allow a version of Meggan to speak Romany in the comics for the first time. It has been everything to me.
I hope you'll pick up today's issue of THE AMAZING NIGHTCRAWLER, and our trade collection when it comes out in a few months. This has been such an amazing journey. I'm not ready for it to be over.
And I will keep trying to write the X-Men in the future! Y'all know me. I don't give up easy.
