been reminiscing on a spat I had about a year after Vermont Yankee was shut down. Got me blocked by a guy claiming wind and solar replaced its output - but that li'l grief was more than compensated by what I learned about he NE-ISO grid from @yes_VY .
I hit the data for an update
I "storified" the encounter in 2016, so I have only a .pdf to show of it morecoldair.files.wordpress.com/2018/09/storif…
There's a lot of grey areas, not the least of which is ISO data omits distributed sources such as residential solar and other self-generation, but nuclear is down, gas up, me right..
Another nuclear power plant in the NE-ISO ended its productive life last month, so if you were hopeful renewables would soon compensate for the closure of one nuclear plant you need to stock up on more hope.

but it's not all bad.
NE-ISO hasn't eliminated coal, but it's reduced
Comparing the earliest full year from the data to the latest, gas is clearly the story (probably accentuated by changes in reporting on dual-fuel oil/gas units).
Not in this graphic is reduced demand (which could be increased DER)
I'd also point to an increase in imports since 2010 - after a period of decline.
There's a reminder in here that sometime Quebec's reservoirs aren't full.
There's also the return to service of Pt. Lepreau and the increase in New York since 2010...
coincides with both increased capacity from Quebec to Ontario and the surge in surplus supply in Ontario - so may be wheel-through transactions
and that would mean most of the increase in low/no emission supply entering NE since 2010 originated in gov't mandates n. of the border
I forgot to comment on Ontario's elimination of coal vs. NE-ISO reducing it to minimal levels.
I doubt there's much of a difference in terms of health impacts from coal, but ON turned to reducing gas.

another thing - which @AldyenDonnelly may add to.
Let's compare 2018 to 2008 as RGGI started in 2019 in light of what I wrote some years ago: "cap space continued to be held by the emitters allocated the emissions allotment" coldaircurrents.luftonline.net/2016/02/the-im…
What'd RGGI do to CDN imports?
