Nobody has to like anything I write, but it would be nice if people (all dudes so far, but I can't see the future) could stop calling me a fake horror girl for writing an ALIEN YA romance when I was contracted to do that by the franchise owner.
Like, honestly, who knows, loves, and understands a franchise better, the person who can reimagine the sort of stories that can happen within its existing structure, or the person who can only tell the same story over and over again?
(Not a response to either of the reviews I've shared this morning, which were very thoughtful, interesting, and positive. Just general frustration.)
I'd get it if I'd written THE SHAPE OF WATER, but with a Xenomorph (acidic bodily fluids + human sexual practice = ow ow no no no). I didn't. I wrote two girls in love before the aliens showed up to start the murder party.
I also killed SO MANY PEOPLE. Is wiping out a colony not violent enough, somehow? Why do I gotta prove my horror cred over and over again? What about me somehow says "not a true horror fan"? Hmmmmm I wonder.
