Reminded that the Microsoft ebook store closes next week. The DRM'd books will stop working.

I cannot believe that sentence.

"The books will stop working."

I keep saying it and it sounds worse each time.
There will be refunds, and reasonable voice says to me it's just business, but the book voice wants to burn it all down.

I'm kind of with the book voice on this one.
Oh, though I had missed this gem.

Remember: Free with DRM is not the same thing as free.
The.

Books.

Will.

Stop.

Working.

I don't endorse piracy, but your moral obligation to tolerate DRM on things you've bought is nil.

(Unless you find the "you license everything" to be moral, in which case, it's impossible to steal anything anyway, so no worries.)
And, look, I love ebooks.

I do.

Epubs. Gaming PDFs. The whole shebang.

I see no contradiction between that and loving physical books, and I don't get those who do. They each have wonderful advantages.

This is not about ebooks. It's about bullshit.
There are plenty of publishers and bookstores who offer electronic books in reasonable ways that respect their readers. Hell, I like to think we're one of them.

But there are also plenty who don't. And to hell with them.
To counter my own ranting, shout out to good actors like @nostarch and the @bitsandmortar program.
Got a great link from @trissylegs for some great DRM free resources

More places I get great DRM free ebooks:
@leanpub leanpub.com
@DriveThruRPG drivethrurpg.com/index.php
@itchio itch.io
@abookapart abookapart.com

Also, shout out to the RPG publishers, esp folks like @EvilHatOfficial and @PelgranePress
