Yes America has a military presence on both sides of Iran. Iran wisely backed down on threats to develop nukes (they still have plenty of missiles and rockets) but the only countries threatened are Israel and the Gulf dictatorships.
Houthis love to yell "Death to America, Death to Israel" at the end of each video in Yemen but Israel is actually bombing Iranian linked targets inside Syria and killing military and civilians. Hamas and other groups have successfully attacked Israel.

Israel with dense urban populations and the Gulf oil monarchies with clustered shipping and transportation are vulnerable. Iran has thousands of mobile rockets and ten times the populaton. Trump's lack of commitment and Bolton's failures to date are telling if Iran wants war.
