One of the Senators who most eloquently & forcefully confronted Sergio Moro during his testimony about the improprieties revealed by our exposés - who just happens to be Brazil's first-ever gay Senator- has been receiving serious death threats. This is how this movement operates:
Meanwhile, a nationwide protest in defense of Moro on Sunday was significantly smaller than prior protests, which weakened him further. Once revered, he's now reduced to needing Bolsonaro's most fanatical followers & blogs. Here's @folha's English article www1.folha.uol.com.br/internacional/…
Note that a major part of the pro-Bolsonaro/pro-Moro march included targeting us, as journalists, for reporting on Moro's corrupt acts. That included a deranged speech by Bolsonaro's son, a Congressman, accusing me of crimes. What kind of movement marches against journalists?
On the same day, the former president of the regional Bar Association posted infantile but grotesquely homophobic tweets in response to a picture posted by @davidmirandario of us kissing ("Who's the husband here? There's no wife? Lack of hygiene", etc.) atarde.uol.com.br/bahia/salvador…
All of this because Moro was supposed to be the linchpin of the Bolsonaro Govt's legitimacy: the hero who removed Bolsonaro's main obstacle (Lula) by finding him guilty & got rewarded with a Super-Justice Ministry. He's back in Congress today, defending the corruption we exposed.
Like all petty tyrants, Moro - beyond the death threats from Bolsonaro's followers - has been using standard intimidation tactics: strongly implying that we're committing crimes by reporting on his wrongdoing. He's been denounced by press freedom groups & yesterday by the UN.
