EU process for selecting top posts has been indefensible. Not that we have any moral high ground on the subject in the UK, but two wrongs don't make a right.

Lots of justifiably angry tweets around on EU top jobs but @jonworth in particular expressing the matter with clarity. A grubby fix, not a good look for an EU wanting to show values, particularly given the rise of populists.
Apparently there are also various scandals around some of the candidates nominated for top European jobs. Perhaps it will all settle down in months to come, but right now this is a gift to populists

Is Prime Minister Johnson going to support his staff? So many questions arise

This won't stop Johnson becoming PM, but adds to the feeling that an unproven (at best) leader facing an unprecedented challenge is not doing much to build confidence that he has the wherewithal to succeed

Important but predictable Brexit news. Boris Johnson rejects at this stage a US trade deal that would change UK food regulations. US unlikely to do a traditional trade deal without this. As I've been saying for some time, UK-US trade deal in trouble telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/…
Do not underestimate the joint power of the farming, environmental, and animal welfare lobbies on the Conservative Party. Or the farming lobby on US trade policy. Those thinking a UK-US trade deal likely have been ignoring this conflict.
The major problems of the UK's Brexit policy - to not know what we want, what the other side will need, have an unrealistic view of relative negotiating power, and the power of precedents - also obviously applies to a US trade deal.

First update from Brussels - Brexit seems to be a shrug combined with a withering look of disgust.
More from Brussels on Brexit. The basic attitude is "Come back to us when you have something serious to say". If that sounds rather superior on the part of the Commission at least, well they don't particularly do humble. But the attitude is widely shared.
Recent developments in UK politics, such as the leadership debates, and Alternative Arrangements Commission, are all seen in Brussels (and probably reflected on the financial markets) as having little to do with negotiating reality. They are not confident this will change.

The single most amusing thing to me, in all of the Abrahamic religions at least, is the idea that God knows Good from Evil, and could imbue the ability to discern the two, along with an inability to disregard the two, in anyone. It's simply hilarious.
In the first place, God itself is flawed, and contradictions itself across the Abrahamic religions, and within the individual religions, too. There's reason to doubt God's knowledge of Good and Evil, especially of anything beyond human relations (not that God is reliable there).
In the second, this would be like implanting memories. You'd just recall something from somewhere, but there'd be no foundation for it whatsoever. At its very best, this is obedience, but obedience is neither Good nor Evil. Obedience makes you a tool for either. No luck here.

2. Legal aid in the crown court is subject to 2 types of means test, one looks at 'income', normally wages etc, but it can be any type of income, the other looks at capital - so savings or equity in a home for example.
3. if disposable income is >£37,500 then legal aid will be refused. So in this case, possibly as the man is retired, he must have passed this means test in order for legal aid to be granted. So he was treated no differently to anyone else.

I can’t say JWR was guilty of anything other than impatience with her colleagues, that itself leads to her shuffle

The release of this recording, it’s very existence, means her political & legal career are both likely over
