New DOJ team on census cases appears to be your typical array of attorneys from the Office of Immigration Litigation and the Civil Frauds Division, headed by the new political head of Consumer Protection and Civil AAG Jody Hunt's Senior Counsel. Business as usual.
But don't worry: I'm sure this crack team was chosen because of their many years of expertise in the Administrative Procedure Act and issues related to the census.
Curious: For some inexplicable reason, it appears that no one from the Aviation, Space & Admiralty Section was available and willing to come aboard.

2/ ... and even promised Nielsen he'd pardon her in order to encourage her to do so.

(ii) None of the more sane officials who've been forced out--from Kelly and Nielsen on down--are willing to now publicly call out the President and Miller for what they are.
3/ They remain complicit, even after they were ridiculed, overrun and effectively forced to resign (or in some cases removed). When they served, they could at least say (or tell themselves) that their involvement prevented things from being worse. What's their excuse now?

Even if we're fortunate enough to avoid the worst, even if we rid ourselves of Trump in 18 months, the nation is hopelessly broken--rent in two for as far as we can envision. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd very surprised if we the living ever again know hope, or come together as one.
To be clear: That's no reason to stop working--the difference between the worst and the merely horrible (two nations inexorably at odds) is extraordinarily important for vast #s of lives.

2/ First, notice how, on p.5 and 35-36, the SG defends the request for a stay by invoking a looming deadline for funding (supposedly 09/30), as in the census case. This time, however, the SG himself doesn't represent to the SCOTUS that that's a real deadline . . . .
3/ Instead, he says only that "According to DOD" ("DOD states," etc.) the $$ will expire. Hence, in the end he represents only that "if the injunction remains
in place, it *may* foreclose DoD’s ability to obligate the funds" and "*may* effectively operate as a final judgment."

Now, for the final #SCOTUS decisions of the term.
First #SCOTUS decision is Mitchell v. Wisconsin, with Breyer joining the more conservative justices and Gorsuch joining the more liberal justices to create a 5-4 ruling allowing a blood-draw from an unconscious driver when BAC information is sought. supremecourt.gov/opinions/18pdf…
Note that Gorsuch did not join his more liberal colleagues on the merits of their dissent, though. He would have just tossed the case.

2/ Some of you have asked, “How could they have lived here for 19 years and still have been considered legal?” They were covered under various visas while petitions were filed over the years. A couple of those petitions (one filed in 2012) are STILL being processed.
