Unfortunately, for many there aren't viable pathways to citizenship. My family included.

/ Some of you have asked, “How could they have lived here for 19 years and still have been considered legal?” They were covered under various visas while petitions were filed over the years. A couple of those petitions (one filed in 2012) are STILL being processed.
/ Yes, this happens. Don’t believe the false narrative that all immigrants can just fill out a few papers, pay a couple of fees, and suddenly they’re citizens. Again, see this video: vimeo.com/293240885
/ Others have said, “Well at least their kids can just visit them in Colombia.” Since my cousins are both DACA recipients, they are not allowed to legally leave the U.S.
/ Until they are offered a legal path toward citizenship, they can’t simply hop a plane to visit. So they literally don’t know when they will see their parents again.
/ Let me be clear. Caring about immigration, refugees, or children being separated from their families is not a bipartisan issue. It's an ethical & moral one.
/ Moreover, those of us who profess to know Christ must remember these are image bearers of God (Genesis 1:26-27), many of them our brothers and sisters in Christ. My family included.
/ We clearly see God demonstrate His heart for the foreigner/sojourner/immigrant in His Word (Deuteronomy 10:17-19; Proverbs 31:8-9; Matthew 25:35; Hebrews 13:2). Seriously, please read those passages.
/ Aren't we as believers commanded by Scripture to seek out the vulnerable and the oppressed, and do the work of justice (mishpat in Hebrew; read Jeremiah 22:3; Isaiah 58)? As the greatest recipients of God's unending love and grace, should we not afford the same to others?
/ As my wife has said before, “In our prosperous land of a million comforts and commodities, it can be difficult for us to identify with the marginalized people God so profoundly met throughout redemptive history.” thewitnessbcc.com/the-slaughter-… @TheWitnessBCC @Quina_Aragon
/ In many American churches it sounds scandalous to say that God has a special care for the Bible’s quartet of the vulnerable: the poor, the orphan, the widow, and the immigrant (Leviticus 19:33-34; Ps. 146:9; Jeremiah 7:6; Zechariah 7:10; James 1:27).
/ It’s not optional for us to care about justice. It's a gospel imperative. If we're not moved by injustice, we have a God problem.
/ Will we all “do justice” (Mic. 6:8) in the same way? No, but we must not reduce what's core to God's redemptive work (i.e. loving your neighbor) to obscure political nuances. When we do this, we're no different than the lawyer who asked, “And who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29)
/ When major Christian conferences and organizations offer minimal time to the immigration injustices happening in our country, and when they offer the mic to speakers who don’t have any proximity to our suffering, it makes me wonder how much we really love the Body of Christ.
/ Thank you for all of the love and prayers from my post from yesterday. I'm blown away. Although this is an incredibly hard time for me and my family, I believe God has given me and my wife a conviction to speak up in a way that we hope glorifies Christ and serves others well.
