Excellent article. To be brutal, I shut down my mind to this subject when I left the field in the 1990s. I am amazed at those that continue despite the knowledge that society is committing harikari in pursuit of profit. It was enough then, it's enough now to drive you mad ->
key phrase “I’ve trained my brain to not torture myself about things that are outside my control” - you have to. Scale of the risk known in the 1990s was truly horrendous but we had a chance to change which was soundly ignored. I can barely imagine what the field is like today.
Of course, the solution is we all escape on a big spaceship, travelling through the stars, with start of the art life support systems, gravity, food generation and water recycling ... let us call this spaceship - "Earth" - oh wtf. Stop wrecking our spaceship! Muppets!
