Reading the transcript from Epstein’s court appearance yesterday. This line from the prosecutor is stunning: “This district took extraordinary efforts to maintain the covert status of its investigation for many months due to the risk of flight of the defendant.”
Epstein refused to cooperate with the Pretrial services report. He wouldn’t answer their questions about his income or assets. Gov’t lawyers arguing that the scope of his wealth is concealed to the court. Judges tend to frown on this.
This exchange from Epstein’s defense attorney, Reid Weingarten, caught everyone by surprise : “If you take a fair look at the facts of this case as alleged and in the record, you may come to the conclusion there was prostitution involved and maybe a lot of it,
but that doesn’t mean that the person involved js a pedophile, a rapist or, heaven knows, a trafficker.”
