This article is mostly spin. The GOPe gave interviews to the author for his new book.

They pretend they were shocked -- just SHOCKED! -- to learn about the Access Hollywood Tape. 🤣

If the GOPe wasn't behind the tape's release, then they knew it was coming and coordinated a response for maximum damage.

They failed, as usual.
The author is correct to give Trump credit for saving his nomination by taking the fight to the Democrats.

Maybe the GOPe should consider doing the same rather than scolding their base every chance they get.

I'm currently reading a work of fiction; however, the characters are based on real life people, most of whom I can identify.

There is one character, though, that has me completely baffled.

Here are the clues...
* He fought in WWI. The last two years in the OSS, the predecessor to the CIA.

* graduated Harvard Law

* asked by Dulles to work for the CIA

* was a senior member in the Nixon DOJ

* ran for Congress once and lost
* was a partner in a successful law firm

* heavy involved in the Republican Party

* worked on Reagan's 1980 campaign (supported another candidate in the primary)

Does anyone have a guess?

You know @brianstelter, @cnn should be more clear that these aren’t representative Trump voters but a political response team.
So this tweet made a splash. I want to add a few thoughts here.

CNN certainly knew who these women were and owed it to viewers to be transparent.

Using political operatives instead of average voters is another symptom of the damaging pundit cultural in news today.

1/ If Barr had three weeks to consider the fact that Mueller had not reached a conclusion on obstruction, as DOJ now claims, why didn't he review the underlying evidence over those three weeks? Why did he only rely on the report and "discussions with certain [DOJ] officials"?
2/ Last night I wrote a column in @POLITICOMag questioning why Barr made a hasty decision on obstruction in two days when Mueller was unwilling to make the same decision after two years of investigation. Now we learn that Barr had more time. politico.com/magazine/story…
3/ That raises new questions that don't change my view that he exercised poor judgment he showed in rushing to clear Trump himself when Mueller was unwilling to do so. He could have just transmitted Mueller's evidence to the American people and their elected representatives.

As @JahnOce pointed out, about 7 hours ago, I threw out a prediction that Trump would try to undermine the Manafort guilty plea with some kind of "Release the Memo" debacle.

Now we find out that Trump . . .
. . . orders the immediately release of Comey's text messages and 20 pages of a surveillance application that targeted former campaign adviser Carter Page as an offensive against Mueller's investigation.

The author of the Politico piece says it's a surprise order.
While everyone was paying attention to Kavanaugh, Trump had his mind on more immediate matters: Manafort.

The order of course is outrageous. The ongoing investigation concerns HIM and his former campaign staff. I wonder if the order will be challenged in court.
