What’s missing from this figure?
Reason for my request: a number of you have asked me to either write a "Most Popular Posts" or a "Guide to Dr. Raul Pacheco-Vega's Resources website". I currently have neither and figured I could use some help by discerning exactly what I have written about. Revised diagram next.
This is the revised framework.
Reworked draft. Somebody must have already drawn this figure and I’m here just trying to reinvent the wheel.
Latest draft of my mind map of the research and writing process. I have included mostly stuff I have written about on my blog. Happy to hear opinions and whether I’m missing something really key.

I have written several threads on why you should diversify your citations, cite PoC, marginalized scholars, and those from the Global South, in other languages, etc. BUT I want to add one to the mix as it's the subject of a current pet peeve of mine. Cite ACROSS DISCIPLINES.
I saw an RCT (yes, THAT RCT) where authors are running a field experiment on protests & social movements that doesn't cite the literature on protests and social movements (smartly, however, don't think I didn't notice, they DO cite prominent scholars who run field experiments)
This is an economics RCT which purports to understand the politics and mechanisms of motivation to protest, which you know, political science and sociology already have analyzed at length. I'm getting to the point where I'm bored to death of parochialism across disciplines.

On the fine balance between crafting new ideas and fighting writers’ block buff.ly/2Gipu6s I wrote this piece because I, too, struggle with perfectionism. One reason why I see @AliaGvR and others promote @ScrivenerApp so hard is because it really helps people do B&B

I have a couple of thoughts on preliminary/qualifying/comprehensive exams.

First, you should take care of your health and body and mind first and foremost.

Second, we all have different learning styles and all universities have different formats for QPC exams. Match both.
I happen to have quasi-eidetic (photographic) memory and I also speed read because my parents sent me to those courses when I was little. So I did read full books, every day.

HOWEVER

If you don’t have the time/possibility to do full books, read book reviews (SEVERAL) and use..
... my AIC strategy but applied to full books. Get the gist, main argument, methods, results.

But more than anything...

Learn to mind-map the connections between authors, themes, concepts, paradigms, etc.

Write by hand in index cards (try it and trust me).
