Look, party unity is important. And it would be very nice if every Dem agreed on every issue and every candidate choice. But that's neither reality nor good for the party--which thrives on creative ferment. Further today's spats will not effect 1 single vote in 2020
Should people treat each other with respect? Of course. Should leaders seek to inspire rather demand unity? Of course. Should we seek common ground? Definitely. But we should also know honest disagreements reflect reality and produce needed evolution. Most importantly...
There is zero chance anyone who calls themselves a Dem today or who leans Dem or who is opposed to Trump will be motivated to vote for Trump because of inside baseball disagreements in the party or because of criticism of candidates in a primary. They'll unite around the nominee.
Further, there is probably no policy position being discussed by any mainstream Democratic candidate that is so anathema to those opposed to Trump that they will stick with him rather than vote for someone who supports it. Trump will see to that.
That's why the traitorous, racist, misogynist, corrupt, incompetent, unfit president will lose. And it is why Dems should realize job one is actually picking someone who can govern, who can lead and inspire America to rise to the challenges it will face from Jan 2021-Jan 2029.
