Because I was right again. All you've done is waste three years going round in a circle to come back to where you started, having achieved absolutely nothing.

You're having exactly the same conversation you were having three years ago. You haven't done anything. You haven't moved one single step from where you were.

We went all through this. This no deal crap. We went through all this, and we showed why it couldn't be done.

Because of grown up stuff like the Good Friday Agreement.

I just fucking despair, honestly, this fucking country. Whether in politics or in journalism, this country seems full of spoilt middle aged babies who are incapable of processing basic information.

You can't leave the European Union with "no deal" because were you to do so you would be obliged to impose a border somewhere.

And where would it go?

See, for the last two years you've been asking yourselves the wrong question about that border.
You think the question is about the nature of the border, but it isn't. The important question is where are you going to put it, not how are you going to police it.

And this is what I mean about adult responsibility.
If you leave the European Union you have to put a border somewhere. There has to be a "where"
And that's the question you can't face - your country, I mean.

Nigel Farage and his Brexters are not serious people. They're clowns. They exist without responsibility. No one is ever going to give them any, and that allows them to talk as if there's no such thing.

But there is such a thing as responsibility. Any government - real government as opposed to Richard Tice and his private wankaround - involves real, grown up responsibility.

And one of the things that the government is responsible for is the Good Friday Agreement.

People like Richard Tice and Nigel Farage are not responsible for it. They're free to gob off like babies because they're not serious people. They're clowns.

And Boris Johnson can act like a clown, and the media can encourage him. But you can't govern the country like a clown.
You can act like a clown and write newspapers, and you can act like a clown in a leadership contest.
But you can't govern the country like that.

And what's gone hideously wrong in this country - and we can all see it - is that the media has completely failed to hold politicians to a grown up level of public discourse.

I mean, it's such complete crap. All of it.

"We're prepared to walk away with no deal."

Well, no, you're not because the responsibilities of government will prevent you doing that.

And that's what I mean about the supreme childishness of our public discourse.

We're divorced from reality. We've unhinged ourselves from fact. We have adopted a public discourse which is in direct contradiction to reality.

Because government, and its international relations, is difficult and demanding. It demands responsibility. And I'm afraid you can't just vote yourself out of that.

You can't just vote your responsibilities away like a fucking child.

Government has serious responsibility, and if you can't understand those you shouldn't be in parliament, never mind trying to lead a party.
You shouldn't be writing a fucking newspaper either, come to that.

Brexit is the fucking swamp. It's nothing but sewage. It really is. It's an intellectual sewer, and all I see now is mental paralysis.
