Thread. "The Good Wife's Guide", 1955. I cannot take credit for this masterpiece, but I think it is some of the best marriage advice I've seen. #TheGoodWife
Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time. This lets him know that you've been thinking about him & are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home & the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.
Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. Be his angel.
Be upbeat and cheerful and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dust cloth over the tables. Light some candles. Turn on soft table or floor lamps. Prepare for you evening together as a family.
During the cooler months of the year, prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift, too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
Minimize the noise when he arrives. Have the washing and vacuuming done earlier in the day. Encourage the children to play quietly (unless he wants to have some active play with them).
Be happy to see him! Show sincerity in your smile & your desire to please him. Don't greet him w/ complaints & problems. Especially don't complain if he's late. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him, maybe a light snack and a comfy chair while you put the dinner on the table.
Speak to your husband in a low, soothing voice. Do not question his actions or decisions. As the head of the house he will exercise his will in fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
A good wife always knows her place.
