8 years ago today, Amy Winehouse passed away.

"Every bad situation is a blues song waiting to happen" —Amy Winehouse
Her album Back to Black led to five 2008 Grammy Awards, tying the then-record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made her the first British woman to win five Grammys.
Throughout her life she donated her money, music and time to many charities, particularly those concerned with children.
Soon after her death, Maura Johnston from The Village Voice said "When she was on, Winehouse had few peers—she wasn’t an octave-jumper like other big divas of the moment, but her contralto had a snap to it that enriched even the simplest syllables with a full spectrum of emotion"
She died of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.
After her death, her album Back to Black became, for a time, the UK's best-selling album of the 21st century.

It is also listed as one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history.
"If I heard someone else singing like me, I would buy it in a heartbeat."
