In AL & MI, a $15 federal minimum wage by 2024 -> ratio of minimum to median wage of 0.8

What are employment effects of minimum wages at these high levels?
We don’t know – current state ratios much lower - unchartered territory!
But within states, many low wage counties already have very high relative minimum wages.

Ex: parts of agricultural CA, TX: the minimum wage approaches 80% of the median wage.

I received active shooter training at work today that I feel will save my life in the unfortunate (and likely) event that someone will open fire in public so I’m gonna share my takeaways.
Some stuff is obvious, the rest might not be.

Disclaimer: I don’t say “likely” to offend. I say likely because mental health is a GROWING issue in this country. It is steadily being underfunded, yet guns are becoming more and more accessible (legally).

HERE'S A FUN FACT ABOUT ME! I was obese for most of my life, and then three years ago I had the gastric sleeve surgery and lost 100 pounds. (1/?)
I'm proud of what I did, and against literally all odds, I have kept most of that weight off. BUT HERE IS THE THING: when I was heavier I was also healthy. I worked out 5 times a week, I had perfect blood pressure, I was strong as hell. (2/?)
I decided to have the surgery of my own accord. And then, I was thinner. Not "thin," mind you. I am still technically of an "overweight" BMI. But because of the way I am built, I am happy to be the weight I am. (3/?)

Banting v ADA 2017-Dalton Banting had diabetes, took prescribed meds, & after following the ADA diet he had a foot amputated. He sued the ADA for NOT recommending a low carb carb diet and won. At trial the ADA president was forced to read guidelines:
“Sucrose-containing foods can be substituted for other carbohydrates in the meal plan or, if added to the meal plan, covered with insulin or other glucose lowering medications.”
Jaggers (attorney for Banting): “Are there other diseases where patients are counseled to make things worse so that they can take more drugs”

Himsworth: “We only say ‘can be.’ We don’t necessarily recommend it. We do say that Care should be taken to avoid excess energy intake”
