(1/3) Amazing case study in the American Journal of #Transplantation:

A kidney #transplant patient was being treated for metastatic cancer using a checkpoint inhibitor, which caused the patient's immune system to reject the kidney (...)…
(2/3) After experiencing a complete response, the patient was re-transplanted with a second kidney. This second graft was monitored for rejection using a novel #liquid #biopsy.

This is the first time, to my knowledge, a patient beat cancer and active organ rejection.
(3/3) We think liquid biopsies will fundamentally change the transplant space, allowing doctors to precisely dial #immunosuppressive medication, anticipate organ rejection, and monitor organ health, using a non-invasive approach.

Did my fellows' curriculum lecture today, "Images in #Nephrology"
Thought of sharing the slides as a tweetorial. Goal is to present some 'classic' images that aid in kidney-related diagnoses. Not exhaustive; plan to make 2nd part as well.
#MedEd #FOAMed Not much POCUS involved!
1st question. Classic image but rarely encountered. Note the super high blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine.

Today is #WorldKidneyDay, so here is a thread about living on #dialysis & #OrganDonation. My name is Belinda Otas. I’m #African. I’m #Nigerian. I'm #Benin. I’m #British & I’m #Black. Beyond the nationalities or passports with my name, I also believe in our shared humanity.
I was 16, when I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure (ESRF.) I had no idea what was happening to me because at the time, it made no sense. However, I remember the pain of that period like noonday. I lived on dialysis until i was 22. #dialysis #OrganDonation #renalhealth
It took over my teenage years. I don’t remember having much of a life as a teenager because dialysis was 3x a week & every session was 4hrs. Add the time it takes to recover from being exhausted by the process, my day was pretty much over. #dialysis #OrganDonation #renalhealth

Today is the 24th day since Start Proper in Chamonix. Here's an update thread on every participant, this time starting from the head of the pack as leader Raf Van Hulle will reach #Almaty #Kazakhstan.
Raf Van Hulle - Team Hyunday Elevator with Unikuu suffered from strong winds and fatigue in the last days as he couldn't rest so well. He'll be crossing into China within the next 2-3 days. His Instagram:
Stéphane Bertrand with Déclic-Eco % @Photowatt follows roughly 400km behind and had scorching hot temperatures (over 40°C) Which slowed him down to 200km yesterday, breaking his streak of 3 days clocking in at 398km!
