I did not look at this slide for a long time. But now I am concerned. We are about to complete four years of ZERO change in WGS costs, the longest stagnation in the past 20 years.

In fact, in the past 8 years, WGS is moving slower than Moore's law.
The reason? My bet is a lack of competition. I am old enough to remember the fun days at AGBT when every night we had a party by a different sequencing company. Not any more. And we all pay the price.
Here is a striking view of the consolidation in this domain. This table is from a 2008 @naturemethods article on genotyping and sequencing technologies. Today, this table is going to be much shorter...

Indeed, there are accurate and new findings in this manuscript. The problem is that the accurate findings are not new and the new findings are not accurate.

In a nutshell, the authors compared array results from the UK Biobank to sequencing results and could not replicate many rare positive calls. This led them to caution against DTC genomics that use arrays to test monogenic conditions with ultra rare alleles.
So what's the issue?

PWN collects family history from our participants and the physicians will NOT prescribe the test if the person is with high likelihood a BRCA carrier (e.g. history of breast

If you are a PhD student that will graduate in 2019, you want to very Very VERY carefully think before deciding to go to a post-doc position 1/n

Post-doc is the only training position in the world that can be endless. You are very likely to start a family and have kids in the next 4-5 years and these $60K/year that sound a lot when you are a grad student might not be sufficient.
The number of PI positions is highly limited and many post-doc will compete with you on the same position. So many post-doc keep delaying their job search for "just 1 more year" to complete whatever story or stories that have been working on. But this year takes 3 and even 4 yrs.

I think it's so funny the moves made by my pd. It's clear as day, and the egregiousness, collusion, violating many rights, outburts in court, lies, gaslighting, and goading even, dude...I got all the emails. Video.
And what judge allows that? My fault somehow, right? Brady Rule, for my own stuff? MP clearly grandstander, put on an act, went way off kilter, lied, slammed papers, it was unhinged, down to misquoting case law.
Seriously, 1.5 yr old subpoenas too. And he allowed it all. This is a shitshow. The Brady Rule, you see that the key. I used it during an investigation that the PD not only knew about, took steps to collude with, knowingly acted against my best interests.
